Allergy Testing
Pet allergies are a common problem during certain times of year, and pets who suffer from allergies can live in misery if special accommodations are not made. We can help pet owners care for their pets by evaluating the causes of allergies, and administering injections to help reduce severe allergy symptoms.
Behavior Management
We offer solutions for a variety of behavioral issues that pet owners are faced with. Behavioral problems can be challenging and frustrating for both pets and pet owners, so it is our goal to work with you towards a solution.
There are many behaviors that can be negative or destructive, and many pet owners feel helpless in bringing peace to their home. We want you to know that we are here to help, and that undesirable behaviors can be corrected.
Geriatric Care
The best way to help protect your pet as they age is to understand the aging process. Even if your senior pet is already being treated for a medical condition, treatment recommendations can change as a condition progresses. Sometimes medication dosages need to be adjusted, or medication may need to be changed. Routine wellness blood work and other routine diagnostic testing are important for senior pets because these tests allow us to evaluate how your pet’s health is either responding to current management strategies or changing with age.
End of Life Care
Saying goodbye to your beloved friend will be one of the hardest things you have to do, and we are here to help you through that process. AVS is honored to be a part of the bond you share with your pet, and we are here to provide you and your pet with love and support during their palliative/hospice care days.
Euthanasia
We believe euthanasia is a kindness when illness or other circumstances have left us with few or no feasible options for easing a pet’s suffering. We know how hard it is to come to this decision, and we are here for you and your beloved pet every step of the way. Contact us today to discuss your pet’s quality of life and questions regarding home euthanasia.
Health Certificates
We are able to provide multiple types of health certificates for your pet’s travel – international and domestic (within the United States).
All animals traveling in/out of the state of Alaska are required to have a health certificate written by a USDA Accredited veterinarian, as well as a current rabies vaccine. Dr. Johnson can provide this service to all types of animals. Please call or email to schedule an appointment.

Obesity is a common problem among pets, as it can be easy to overfeed a cute dog or cat that knows how to beg. Being overweight is a serious problem for animals, and can cause real health problems. With proper diet and exercise, all pets should be able to meet their dietary needs and stay within a healthy weight range.
Parasite Prevention
The idea of your pet being infested with parasites is a disturbing thought, but it’s also a medical issue that can have serious consequences if not properly dealt with or prevented. Parasites pose a variety of health issues for our pets, who can be very susceptible to certain parasites depending on age, region, and other factors.
At Alpenglow Veterinary Services, we emphasize the importance of preventing parasites. Through preventative measures, you can successfully protect your pet. Pets that are not protected often develop parasites, leading to serious problems for them and their owners.

Pharmacy
We use an outside pet pharmacy to prescribe any medications needed. Prescriptions can also be prescribed through nearby human pharmacies if preferred.
Preventative Care
We believe the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pets’ health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems.
We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. Often health problems that go undetected can become more severe issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy.
